World Snail Racing Championships ( Ready.. Steady.. SLOW!)

As races go it was not the most action-packed, and despite taking 3m 41s to complete the finely honed athletes only covered 13 inches. Welcome to the World Snail Racing Championship 2010.

The obviously prestigious event takes place annually in Norfolk and sees more than 200 of the world's speediest snails compete in the races which each start with a ref saying: "Ready, steady, SLOW!"

The racers are started at the centre of a circular table and sprint to the circular finish line 13 inches away. After a series of round the winner scoops a silver tankard filled with lettuce.

This year the honour went to Sidney the snail (and 62-year-old owner Claire Lawrence) took the title in a leisurely 3m 41s… that's longer than the 1500m race at the Olympics.

Event organiser, Hilary Scase, said: "Snails like damp conditions and as Congham is surrounded by ponds and is very low lying it is just right for snails. Congham is to snail racing what Newmarket is to horse racing.”

Office Chairs Racing Championship in Germany

This Weird Championship event holding in Germany every year. The Very Interesting part is that all competitors are Racing using Office-Chairs through the 170m to 200m course. Probably This event as the proof that Office-Chairs is not always can be related to people that seriously focused on their daily work only, but also can be used as another fun way to release stress as well :)

The Ghost Town Island - Gunkanjima Japan

In the early 1900's, Gunkanjima was a Rich City Island and desenly populated even this vast island is only less than 1 km, this because the City was a Prosperous Island for its rich coal on that time was being managed by Mitsubishi Corporation



To accommodate the miners, ten apartment complex built there. A tall labyrinth connected with the terrace, corridors and stairs. There are schools, restaurants, and gaming houses, all surrounded by a protective wall. The island is known as “Nashi Midori Shima,” the island without a green color. In the Year 50’s the population reached 6000 people, this is the most densely populated islands in the world at that time.

But the coal mines that continuously dredged up to the seabed in the long time is exhausted and the island was closed. The island that did not have any green plants die over time. Fifty years later, the island is like a ghost island with crumbling apartments. Year 1974-2009, the island is sealed off from visitors. But recently emerged new regulations, this unique island opened to tourists. The island is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bryan Berg has has broken his own world record and set the new Guinness World Record Wednesday by building a giant replica of the Venetian Macau hotel and casino inside the resort in China's gambling hub.


Bryan Berg has has broken his own world record and set the new Guinness World Record Wednesday by building a giant replica of the Venetian Macau hotel and casino inside the resort in China's gambling hub.

The structure used a total of 218,792 playing cards and took 44 days to complete. Completed, it is 35 feet long, 10 feet tall, and weighs 600 pounds.

"I can't help it, I was trained as an architect and I have taken just enough structural engineering to be dangerous," said Berg, who has a master's degree from Harvard's Graduate School of Design. "When I'm in there working - figuring out how to build something - even though I'm sort of playing around with playing cards, it's really like a real construction project. Because you have to engineer every single adjacency and every support that's supporting everything above."

Berg had some close calls during construction - including several collapses.

The 1.2 million square-foot Venetian Macao Resort Hotel is the world's largest resort hotel.

Longest Name of a place on the Earth

There are other places which compete for the longest name, a village in Wales boasts a village called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (58 letters), which in English means "Saint Mary's Church in the hollow of white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of Saint Tysilio near the red cave." The locals call it Llanfairpwll (pronounced thlan vire puth).

Recently Bangkok is claiming that it has the longest name, Krungthepmahanakornamornratanakosinmahintarayutthayamahadilokphopnopparatrajathaniburiromudomrajaniwesmahasatharnamornphimarnavatarnsathitsakkattiyavisanukamprasit (163 letter), this claim is not yet officially recognized, who knows we might see this toppling the record for the longest name in the future but till then the city in New Zealand claims the top spot.
